Senior Network Engineer

Responsibilities: 

  • Delegates basic network maintenance tasks to a computer support technician or junior network engineer
  • Collaborates with network architects to design and build functional networks from the ground up
  • Plans out network installation and/or upgrade project, assign milestone tasks to support personnel and meet company deadlines for full implementation, including network and installation of all software and end-user security
  • Researches hardware and software solutions and create plans, including layouts and product specifications, for all data communication networks
  • Writes and implements networking protocols company-wide and department policies & procedures
  • Presents findings in report format to appropriate personnel and explains how the new communications network will address current issues
  • Provides production support for customers and peers on multiple systems supporting client mainly on a variety of networking and security platforms
  • Monitors queue for incoming Production support incidents. This position will own enterprise level incidents, troubleshoot of, and resolution of. May require contacting customers and peers within other areas of IT throughout the process. Works with other team members to balance the load of incoming incidents. Takes after hours & weekend support calls from customers
  • Completes deployments (change/service requests) for customers and peers on systems, including following departmental controls and processes and documenting in IT support systems, security modifications/updates, schedule changes, software development life cycle (SDLC) requests, and various other system changes
  • Creates required documentation for operational and support processes.
  • Creates system diagrams (Visio) for reference and support. Creates system installation/upgrade reference documents
  • Responsible for identifying proper alerts and mechanisms to proactively monitor the environment.
  • Serves as SME in the Network environment.
  • Leads in setting of standards for installing, testing and maintaining of operating systems, application software and system management tools
  • Leads cross functional Triaging/RCA (Root Cause Analysis) for issues identified as impairing or impacting the service or reliability Systems.

Experience: 

  • 6-8 years of experience in designing, deploying and supporting Infrastructure solutions of CISCO technologies for networking and Unified Communication
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related, w/ 4-6 years of related experience or equivalent.
  • Expert level of networking (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, SSL/TLS, Layer 3 and Layer 7 load balancing, firewalls, etc.)
  • 2-4 years of monitoring and proactive data center operations
  • Scripting and/or programming experience (Bash, Perl, Python, VBScript, Go, C, or C++.)
  • Proven ability to work independently, plan workload and deliver on commitments
