Network Engineer

Responsibilities: 

  • Design, deploy and support WAN/LAN infrastructure including but not limited to routers, switches, firewalls, spam filters, load balancers, VPN, SAN and NAS devices. 
  • Manages daily critical network functionality including by not limited to:  Network performance, server performance, internet usage, mail usage, security violations, backups, server and desktop OS updates, virus protection, spam filtering, adware, and software licensing violations. 
  • Install, support & maintain hardware/software infrastructure according to best practices. 
  • Provides network and host-based security, incident response, firewall and VPN management and administration 
  • Troubleshoot reported problems, perform root cause analysis, recommend and execute preventative measures 
  • Adheres to change management procedures in defining, planning and implementing change in such a way that ensures appropriate coordination with other teams, minimizes service disruption, and ensures adherence to Service Level Agreements.  
  • Provides direction for standards and procedures for monitoring, capacity planning, tuning, maintenance, performance optimization, backups and recovery; ensures infrastructure will meet capacity requirements to deliver projects on time.  
  • Performs hardware and software installations as needed. 
  • Manage cloud based VIOP phone system to practice support centers and branch offices. 
  • Design, deploy and implement network systems integrations for newly acquired offices company wide. 
  • Remains current on emerging technologies via professional groups, trade magazines, internal or external training, independent research and study, and other avenues available. 
  • Ensures complete communication to the IT Support Desk on the status of all problems assigned to him/her according to existing procedures. 
  • Escalation point for network, server and infrastructure related issues 
  • Perform system audits and present results with action items to the Manager, Infrastructure and Networking 
  • Documentation of network, infrastructure, and telecommunication systems 

Experience: 

  • 5 + years’ experience of Networking experience LAN/WAN (Cisco & Fortinet Preferred)
  • 5 + years working with VOIP systems 
  • 5 + years’ experience working Security products  
  • Understanding and implementation of network traffic analysis, remote access methods and systems, stateful inspection firewalls, encryption, authentication and authorization technology 
  • Advanced level knowledge of LAN/WAN and Wireless technologies. 
  • Advanced level understanding of TCP/IP networking (DNS, DHCP, RAS, VPN, routing protocols (EIGRP, BGP, OSPF), etc.) 
  • Advanced knowledge of network concepts and functional working skills with various network technologies (create VLAN, create static route, diagnose routing problems, configure ports, create VPN, etc.) 
  • Advanced understanding of OS and Network security best practices and strategies. 
  • Advanced level diagnostic method and skills in a variety of environments. 
  • Moderate level understanding of systems automation (scripting, imaging, installation, management). 
  • Moderate level knowledge of collaborative technologies such as Exchange, Lync, and VoIP. 
  • Moderate level knowledge of virtualization concepts and advanced skills with various virtualization technologies.  (create/modify VM’s and templates, create storage groups, snapshot, clone/export, HA, replication, dynamic provisioning, etc.) 
  • Moderate level knowledge of OS directory services (Active Directory, LDAP, RADIUS, etc.) 
  • Moderate knowledge of shared storage concepts and intermediate skills with various shared storage technologies (provisioning LUN’s, expanding volumes, configuring RAID, replication, snapshot, etc.) 
  • Analytical and process-oriented approach to issues and assigned tasks. 
  • Strong understanding of the OSI model 
  • Strong knowledge packet capture analysis and reporting. 
  • Strong project management skills; task focused and results oriented delivery. 
  • Strong analytics, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills. 
  • Able to communicate effectively with users, team members, and management. 
  • Ability to self-manage and prioritize multiple projects with aggressive due dates 
  • CCNA or CCNP are desired but not required.
