Manager – Database Management and Data Engineering

Responsibilities: 

  • Oversees the development, enhancement, automation, performance and maintenance of the organizations’ databases in line with business, technology and compliance objectives.
  • Responsible for all data storage and retrieval systems, troubleshooting of database issues, and implementing database recovery procedures and safety protocols.
  • Identifies, recruits, supervises, and mentors a team of database administrators, SQL Developers and engineers and provide them with technical guidance, leadership, and advice on planning, designing, and implementing the daily operational procedures and data strategies to achieve high-performance, operational excellence, accuracy, and reliability of the company’s data.
  • Documents and regularly benchmarks database management and Data Engineering processes against best practices to measure effectiveness.
  • Designs and builds a data infrastructure for extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide range of data sources
  • Continuously looks for data optimization opportunities and oversees data management, governance, security, and analysis
  • Develops the data protection procedures to ensure data integrity and quality; including data security and restoration policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Coordinates with Application Development, Third-Party Integration and Data Analytics Teams to design, create and launch new and maintain data models, tools and pipelines as per needs
  • Coordinates with multiple teams on the performance requirements and sets the capacity planning and diagnostic strategy and evaluates and presents performance metrics.
  • Develops and implements data acquisition and integration processes and support activities as part of the company’s acquisition strategy.
  • Identifies, designs, and implements the process improvements for building/re-engineering data models, data architectures, pipelines, and data applications
  • Monitors and manages data delivery through dashboards, visualizations, and reports
  • Identify and recommends the tools and technologies to further the company’s data architecture to support new data initiatives and to evolve the company’s data-driven culture
  • May act as a Project Manager for data projects
  • Keeps up to date with database management and data engineering technological developments.

Experience: 

  • 7+ years of progressive medium/large-scale data solutions / database management experience.  Although not required, candidates with healthcare or distributed retail will receive preference.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Informatics, Analytics, or another quantitative field. 
  • Candidates with a Master’s degree will receive preference. IT certifications will be favorably considered.
  • Three or more years in a managerial role, providing strategy, vision and managing data engineers and SQL developers and guiding them through project planning, design, development, quality control, deployment, and operations.
  • Proficient with SQL Server v19 performance administration – tuning, optimizing, installing, recovering and overseeing overall general systems health.
  • Sound knowledge of building and enhancing data pipelines, datasets, and data architecture from existing systems including raw and unstructured data; including data ingestion (ELT, ETL,
  • Experience offering and sharing technical leadership to guide teams on database and data engineering best practices.
  • Advanced experience with two or more of the following – Microsoft-based technology stack, Microsoft SQL, Azure & Related Services, Supporting In-house developed and deployed desktop applications.
  • Knowledge of data security best practices and experience building secure data solutions
  • Must have experience designing, architecting, enhancing data lake on cloud platforms and working knowledge of PowerBI application integration
  • Working Project management skills and team management experience with managerial abilities to guide and grow a team of data enthusiasts 
  • Experience database disaster recovery planning and testing
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • In-depth knowledge of database technologies, architecture, and data security.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to troubleshoot software, reporting or database issues impacted by hardware issues
  • Advanced analytical organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong leadership skills working across an organization with the ability to influence, motivate and develop people.
  • Uses a consultative approach to engage teams and individuals to successfully identify and resolve a variety of conflicts across their teams; mitigate risk and resolve personnel and operational issues.
  • Ability to analyze, apply key data and monitor trends to communicate change and obtain targets
  • Ability to handle highly-sensitive and confidential information with discretion and in a manner that inspires confidence and trust.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with correct prioritization and time management skills.
  • Advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
