Business Intelligence Developer

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and enhance reporting, dashboards, and web-based self-service tools that provide information to the enterprise and facilitate data-driven decision making
  • Participate in requirements gathering, working closely with business partners to identify their data needs, resulting in specifications for new projects and/or updates to existing systems
  • Identify opportunities to employ data analytics and visualization for enhanced data intelligence across the organization
  • Perform analysis of corporate data sets and recommend changes to database and lakehouse structures to facilitate BI application development
  • Assess the current reporting environment and recommend future state changes to align with the advancement of the data platform
  • Review completed code, documentation and other deliverables to ensure that they meet specifications and requirements based on defined expectations
  • Provide technical expertise necessary to deliver on project requirements as well as support existing production reporting and application systems
  • Independently diagnose and solve complex technical problems quickly, while ensuring high quality deliverables are provided to business partners
  • Work with other Data and Analytics team members to estimate, plan and schedule tasks to meet assigned target dates
  • Execute test plans that encompass unit testing and analysis of test results
  • Document new and existing systems, develop workflows, and create supporting documents in adherence to all departmental and corporate standards
  • Obtain approvals and consult with production control as needed to prepare programs/systems for implementation; correspond with clients to implement operations programs/enhancements and identify/resolve problems

Experience: 

  • 5 years IT experience with 3 years of experience in a Business Intelligence (BI) reporting and analytics capacity required.
  • Extensive experience querying complex data sets and compiling results to provide insights to an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability using SQL to query data efficiently from database systems such as Oracle or SQL Server.
  • Demonstrated ability to use BI reporting platforms such as WebFOCUS, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), etc. to deliver custom reports per business requirements.
  • Experience using platforms such as Qlik or Tableau to deliver data visualization and analytics to an organization.
  • Experience working with tools within Microsoft Excel including pivot tables and VBA/Macros.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following for creating reports or applications within a web environment: HTML, JavaScript, and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
  • Familiar with data analytics to include one of, but not limited to KPIs, statistical analysis, predictive analytics, data mining, machine learning, etc.
  • Familiar working with data organized using Kimball dimensional modeling
  • Familiar with one or more systems development life cycle (SDLC) methodologies, including those that support agile/iterative development
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across all levels of the organization
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with data in Amazon AWS and/or Databricks is preferred
  • Experience with Python for data manipulation or data science is preferred
  • Experience working with Microsoft Power BI is preferred
  • Experience in the insurance industry, or with insurance applications such as Guidewire, is preferred
